In May of 2006, we began a vendor managed inventory program with Falcon Metal Corporation. We began with 13 items, but have added over 261 items to date. They have helped reduce our inventory investment while saving our materials group countless time since its inception. In addition to the production material savings they offered, we also are saving on incoming freight costs thru this program. They have helped consolidate purchases from several vendors and have done an outstanding job with exceptional response times. Falcon’s inventory management program has allowed us to reduce our fastener inventory by over 50 percent. They come to our plant every two weeks to scan our stock of the parts we buy from them and replenish as needed in previously agreed upon quantities. By implementing the Falcon Bar Code Inventory System (FBIS) at our facility, we have substantially reduced our inventory without any negative impact on production. Falcon has assigned a full time person onsite to provide us daily replenishment of 690 parts at over 800 point of use locations in our plant. Falcon has replaced 55 suppliers of Class “C” production components. Implementation of FBIS has provided our purchasing staff the ability to focus on higher priority issues.
